Bio
A speedy wingman known as "Snowy," Jim Maxfield arrived at Richmond as a mature-age recruit with a decorated background that included an appearance in the famous 1916 Pioneer Exhibition Game in London during his World War I service. After establishing himself as a star in the Gippsland leagues with Morwell, he joined the Tigers and impressed immediately with his blistering paceāan attribute later confirmed when he won the professional Sale Gift sprint. However, his VFL tenure was severely disrupted by a protracted clearance dispute regarding his transfer from the country, which saw his permit cancelled and forced him to the sidelines for over a year. Maxfield eventually returned to the senior side but left after just two seasons to pursue captain-coaching roles in the bush, leaving behind a brief but eventful legacy at Punt Road.
