Bio
A quintessential journeyman who enjoyed a brief moment of cult status, Jim McAllester's career was defined by persistence across three league clubs. Recruited to Essendon from Moonee Imperials, the bearded big man struggled to secure a senior game at Windy Hill and found only fleeting opportunities during a two-year stint with Footscray before dropping to country football with East Ballarat. His VFL career appeared over until Collingwood offered him a lifeline in 1984, utilising his 190cm frame as a versatile ruck-forward to add depth to their list. McAllester repaid the faith with a stunning match-winning performance against Sydney at the SCG, booting seven straight goals to upstage Warwick Capper and drag the Magpies to victory. Despite that afternoon of glory, he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the side and his time at the top level ended in frustration when a transfer fee dispute blocked a proposed return to the Bombers.
