Bio
Jim "Kilby" McShane was a central figure in Geelong’s transition from the VFA to the VFL, playing alongside his brothers Joe and Henry to form one of the league's earliest footballing dynasties. A versatile operator who split his time between the centre pivot and the forward line, McShane possessed the stamina to run through the midfield and the goal sense to impact the scoreboard. He is best remembered for a singular day out in 1899 against St Kilda, where he became the first player in VFL history to kick a double-figure tally, finishing with 11 majors in a landslide victory. McShane captained the club in 1900, retiring as a foundational pillar of the Pivotonians' early years and the holder of a goal-kicking record that stood for over a decade.
