Bio
Recruited from Collie in Western Australia, Jim Patterson’s football journey was defined by his long-standing service with the Royal Australian Navy, having enlisted three years prior to the outbreak of World War II. His arrival at North Melbourne was a result of being stationed in Victoria, though his VFL career proved a fragmented affair dictated by shore leave and military transfers. Standing six feet tall, Patterson operated as a handy forward and utility, managing to kick 20 goals in his 25 appearances despite the stop-start nature of his tenure at Arden Street. Following his time in the League, he transferred to the VFA where he featured in Sandringham’s 1947 Grand Final side, before eventually returning to his home state to play a solitary final game for Perth in the WAFL.
