Bio
English-born but recruited locally from East Brunswick, Jim Redstone was a handy forward who made a brief cameo for South Melbourne during the 1938 season. Standing 179cm, he wasted little time adjusting to the tempo of VFL football, slotting five goals across his four games to show genuine promise as an attacking target at the Lake Oval. Despite averaging better than a goal a game, his stint in the top flight was restricted to that single winter. Like many young men of his generation, his sporting ambitions were ultimately secondary to national duty, with Redstone going on to serve in the Australian Army during the Second World War.
