Bio
Arriving from Beverley as a versatile key position prospect, Jim Spain established himself as a capable follower and centre half-back who earned selection for Victoria early in his career. His tenure at Punt Road was interrupted by a significant detour to the VFA; after featuring in Richmond's 1924 finals campaign, he crossed to Prahran for the 1926 season where he flourished, finishing third in the Recorder Cup count. Spain returned to the Tigers briefly in 1927 before departing for good to become a dual premiership player with Oakleigh, eventually carving out a successful post-football niche as a professional sprint trainer who prepared multiple Stawell Gift winners.
