Bio
Recruited from Ballarat, Jim Stephenson joined St Kilda in 1956, coinciding with the arrival of hard-nosed coach Alan Killigrew. With Killigrew having previously coached in the Ballarat league, he aggressively reshaped the Saints' list and looked to the region for fresh talent to replace the club's aging veterans. Stephenson was selected for the opening round of the season against North Melbourne and retained his spot for the Round 2 match against Footscray. He managed to kick a goal during his brief stint in the seniors but was unable to hold his position in the side as the club experimented with its lineup. His VFL career concluded after those two appearances, marking his tenure as a brief chapter in the early, foundational days of the Killigrew rebuild.
