Bio
Tasmanian-born Jim Tumilty holds a distinct place in Carlton history as the club's first player from the Apple Isle, recruited in 1910 after catching the eye as a rover for the Mechanics in Queenstown's mining district. He managed just two senior appearances for the Blues—debuting against Fitzroy and booting a single goal against University—before his wanderlust saw him head to Broken Hill and later back to Launceston to secure a local premiership. Though his VFL stint was a brief cameo, Tumilty is remembered as a rugged football journeyman who traded the field for the trenches, serving at Gallipoli and in France where he survived gas attacks to return home a war hero.
