Bio
Recruited from local feeder club Carlton District, Jim Watson was a stoic and reliable full-back who anchored the Blues' deep defence throughout the 1920s. After making his debut in 1921 and missing the entire following season, he returned to establish himself as the club's first-choice custodian of the goal square, rarely missing a match between 1923 and 1928. A pure defender who focused entirely on stopping opposition full-forwards rather than generating attack, he finished his career without a single goal to his name. Watson's tenure at Princes Park ended mid-way through the 1929 season when he crossed to Fitzroy, where he played a final six games before retiring just three matches shy of the 100-game milestone.
