Bio
Recruited from the University Blacks in the VAFA, Jim Yewers was a towering presence for St Kilda who stood 191cm—a giant stature for the late 1930s. He immediately found a place in the side as a ruckman and forward option, using his height advantage to kick 15 goals across his first two seasons while providing rare aerial dominance for the struggling Saints. However, his promising career was effectively cut short by the Second World War; after missing the entire 1941 season, he returned for a solitary final appearance in 1942 before his time at the elite level concluded. Yewers remains one of the many "what if" stories of his generation, a physically gifted talent whose prime athletic years were lost to the wartime era.
