Stats
Bio
Recruited from St Monica’s CYMS, Jimmy Farrell provided a sharp but fleeting burst of excitement for Essendon during the tumultuous 1943 season. The dangerous half-forward made an immediate impact at VFL level, booting four goals on debut against Richmond and backing it up with another four-goal haul the following week against Footscray. However, like many footballers of his era, his promising career was cut short by the Second World War; Farrell enlisted in the 2nd AIF before transferring to the RAAF as a medical clerk later that year. Unable to reclaim his spot in the Bombers' senior lineup after his service concluded, he eventually crossed to Brunswick in the VFA for the 1945 season, leaving his VFL legacy as a potent "what-if" with an impressive strike rate in his brief four-game cameo.
