Bio
One of 12 children born in Campbell Town, Tasmania, Jimmy Jenkins was a towering recruit from North Launceston who crossed Bass Strait to join St Kilda in 1921. Standing at an imposing 193cm—a giant stature for the 1920s—he was a formidable ruckman and follower who used his significant height advantage to control aerial contests and stoppages. Jenkins was a consistent performer in his first three seasons but took an unusual detour in 1924, leaving the club after the opening round to take up a coaching role with Orbost in country Victoria. He returned to the Junction Oval for the start of the 1925 season to register his 50th and final VFL game before departing for the VFA, where he cemented a legacy as a three-time premiership player and Team of the Century ruckman for Coburg.
