Bio
Recruited from the local Richmond district leagues via St Ignatius and Balmain, Jimmy Shand was a tall yet slender utility who operated effectively as a half-back flanker or centreman. He established himself in the senior side during the turbulent First World War era, providing steady service as the Tigers consistently pushed for finals contention. Although he possessed the height of a key position player, his light frame saw him utilized as an outside mover rather than a contested beast. His time at VFL level ended abruptly early in the 1919 season when he transferred to the VFA to represent Brunswick, eventually winding down his career with Prahran. Shand maintained a lifelong association with the club, serving on the reserves committee, and his family name returned to the senior team decades later through his grandson, Wayne Shand.
