Bio
Born in Maryborough and recruited via Williamstown Juniors, Jimmy Sullivan emerged as a vital component of Essendon's famous "Mosquito Fleet" in the years following World War I. Standing at just 168cm, the diminutive wingman and half-forward relied on blistering pace and clever ball use to break lines, eventually earning the vice-captaincy in 1923. While he missed the club's premiership side that year, Sullivan secured his own flag triumph in 1924, playing a key role in the Bombers' round-robin victory. His career took an unusual turn midway through the 1925 season when residential zoning complications involving the newly admitted North Melbourne forced a transfer to Melbourne, where he played just six games before shifting his focus to captain-coaching the seconds.
