Bio
James Wakefield Tate was a diminutive forward who managed a brief but effective cameo for North Melbourne during the 1935 VFL season. Born in Essendon, he worked his way onto the Shinboners' list and was eventually handed a late-season opportunity, making his debut in Round 17 against Melbourne. Standing just 174cm, Tate was suited to a roving or small forward role and immediately showed promise by booting two goals in his first appearance at senior level. Despite playing the final two matches of the year and hitting the scoreboard, he did not feature for the club again, leaving his VFL career as a fleeting two-game stint before he faded from the top level.
