Bio
Recruited from Yarrawonga, Jock Ball arrived at Melbourne with significant expectations after winning the 1934 Morris Medal as the Ovens and Murray League's best and fairest player. A defender who primarily operated across half-back, he possessed the natural ball-winning ability that made him a standout in country football but found it difficult to translate that dominance into consistent VFL performance. He spent three seasons on the fringe of the senior team, struggling to secure a permanent role in a Demons lineup that was beginning its steady ascent toward a golden era. After managing just 11 games in red and blue, Ball was cleared to Essendon in 1938 where he failed to add to his game tally before eventually continuing his career in the VFA with Williamstown.
