Stats
Bio
Standing just 166cm and playing with vision in only one eye, Jock Doherty was a courageous rover who carved out a unique place in VFL history across two clubs. Originally a North Melbourne junior, he established himself at South Melbourne where he became a premiership player in 1918, overcoming his physical limitations with tenacity and skill around the packs. After leaving the Lake Oval to captain-coach Ganmain in the Riverina district for two seasons, Doherty answered the call to return to his original club for its entry into the VFL in 1925. As one of the few players on the list with prior senior VFL experience, he proved invaluable in the club's foundation year, notably booting two goals in North Melbourne's historic first-ever League victory against Geelong before retiring as one of the original Shinboners.
