Bio
A Diamond Creek native who found his way to Princes Park via Western Australia, Joe Archer was a unique recruit for the turn-of-the-century Blues. He was secured from the Rovers Football Club in the WAFL, making the long journey east to feature in the 1899 VFL season. Archer managed just four senior appearances without hitting the scoreboard, struggling to cement a permanent place in a Carlton side that was still finding its identity in the league's formative years. His top-level career was short-lived, and he departed the club the following year to continue his football journey with Essendon Town in the VFA.
