Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 32 in the 2016 National Draft, Joe Atley arrived at Port Adelaide as a strong-bodied inside midfielder, following the path of his older brother, North Melbourne defender Shaun Atley. Renowned for his contested ball-winning ability and clean hands at stoppages, he spent his tenure at Alberton pushing for selection in a competitive engine room, often acting as a depth player behind established stars like Travis Boak and Ollie Wines. While he demonstrated his capacity to win clearances and apply defensive pressure when called upon for senior duties, Atley found it difficult to cement a permanent position in the Power's best 22 over his four seasons at the club. He was ultimately delisted at the conclusion of the 2020 season, ending his stint with Port Adelaide as a hard-working clearance specialist who primarily plied his trade in the SANFL while fighting for AFL opportunities.
