Bio
Recruited from Cheltenham, Joe Chandler provided a brief spark for South Melbourne during the VFL's second-ever season in 1898. The North Melbourne-born forward seized his limited opportunities at Lake Oval, managing to boot two goals in just three senior appearances—a respectable return in an era of significantly lower scoring. Despite showing he could find the big sticks at league level, Chandler’s career was ultimately short-lived; his tenure in the red and white concluded after that solitary campaign, leaving him as a momentary contributor to the club's formative years.
