Bio
Recruited from local side Yarraville, Joe Knott was a stoutly built utility who began his VFL career with Footscray in 1926. After a brief five-game stint with the Tricolours as a teenager, he returned to the VFA where he honed his craft with Yarraville, eventually earning a second chance at league level with North Melbourne in 1930. Standing 177cm, Knott was a reliable defensive option who could fill gaps in the backline, though he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side during the Shinboners' difficult early years in the competition. He featured 16 times for North Melbourne across two seasons before returning to the VFA, where he finished his playing days with stints at Brunswick and Coburg.
