Bio
A Tasmanian football legend who briefly crossed Bass Strait to test himself in the VFL, Joe Littler joined South Melbourne from the Mersey Football Club for a single season in 1903. The forward showed immediate promise in his short stint, notably kicking all three of his side's goals during a bizarrely inaccurate 3.17 performance against Melbourne at the MCG. Despite demonstrating he could find the sticks at the highest level, he returned to the Apple Isle after just 10 games to resume a local career defined by extraordinary longevity. Littler remained a fixture in Tasmanian football for decades, famously coming out of retirement to play a senior match for Wynyard at the age of 52 when the team was short on numbers.
