Stats
Bio
Hailing from Kadina, South Australia, Joe Lukeman was a tall defender who arrived at Footscray as a mature-age recruit during the club's formative VFL years. He originally established his football credentials in the SANFL with West Adelaide, debuting in 1922 and performing strongly enough to feature in the 1925 J.J. Schuh cigarette card series before making the move to Victoria. Lukeman joined Footscray in 1928, adding size to a backline that was still adjusting to the league standard following the club's admission three years prior. Standing 183cm, he possessed significant height for a backman of that era, yet he struggled to cement a permanent position in the senior lineup. His VFL career proved brief, managing just eight goalless appearances across the 1928 and 1929 seasons before departing the top flight.
