Bio
Recruited from local side Richmond City, Joe Marr was a versatile utility who could hold down a defensive post or rotate through the centre. He commenced his VFL career with Carlton in 1900, toiling for three seasons during a particularly lean era for the Blues where wins were scarce. Seeking a change of fortune, Marr crossed to league powerhouse Essendon for the 1903 season, effectively trading the outhouse for the penthouse as he joined a side fresh off a Grand Final appearance. He became a regular fixture for the "Same Olds" in his solitary year at East Melbourne, playing 14 games as a steady contributor before hanging up his boots with a career total of 41 senior appearances.
