Bio
Recruited to North Melbourne during the club's difficult struggles of the Great Depression era, Joe McElholum was a mid-sized utility brought in to bolster a side undergoing a significant list rebuild. He earned his senior debut midway through the 1930 season, initially finding a niche in the line-up to play the final six games of the year, where he booted his two career goals. Standing 179cm, McElholum offered a sturdy presence around the flanks but found opportunities scarce the following season, adding just two more senior appearances in 1931 before departing the VFL. He continued his football journey in the VFA with Yarraville in 1932 and later served in the Australian Army during World War II, eventually settling in the Riverina region where he remained involved in the game with Deniliquin.
