Bio
Recruited from Dandenong, Joe Meehan arrived at Hawthorn seeking to emulate the VFL career of his older brother, Fitzroy defender Tom Meehan. After a brief stint with the Mayblooms in 1932 failed to yield a regular senior spot, he transferred to the VFA, where he established himself as a durable contributor for Camberwell over five seasons. A solid utility capable of pushing forward, his consistent form in the Association eventually earned him a second crack at the top flight with South Melbourne in 1938. Although his return added only a few games to his tally, Meehan's career was defined by his resilience to fight his way back to League football after a six-year absence.
