Bio
Born in Queensland and educated at Parade College, Joe O'Carroll was a mature-age recruit whose football journey was significantly delayed by the Great War. Although he first appeared on the radar as a promising forward during Melbourne's 1913 pre-season, his senior career was put on hold while he served overseas with the 39th Battalion. He finally made his VFL debut in 1920 at the age of 29, playing three games and booting two goals in a brief stint at the top level. While his on-field tenure was short-lived, O'Carroll later found greater prominence in public life, serving as the Member for Clifton Hill in the Victorian Legislative Assembly for both the Labor Party and the Democratic Labor Party during the 1950s.
