Bio
Recruited from East Perth with pick 8 in the 1999 National Draft, Joel Corey developed into a foundational pillar of Geelong's greatest era. A tall inside midfielder who often flew under the radar compared to his higher-profile teammates, Corey was celebrated internally for his relentless work rate, elite hands in traffic, and defensive accountability. His ability to win contested ball and lay distinctively heavy tackles made him the ideal complement to the Cats' flashy outside runners, earning him a reputation as a player who prioritised team success over individual accolades.
Corey's standing at Kardinia Park is immense, underpinned by his central role in the 2007, 2009, and 2011 premiership victories. His individual excellence was recognised with dual All-Australian selections and two Carji Greeves Medals, winning the club's best and fairest in 2005 and again in the premiership year of 2008. He retired at the conclusion of the 2013 season as a 276-game one-club player, widely respected as a selfless leader who set the physical standards for one of the most formidable midfields in VFL/AFL history.
