Stats
Bio
Recruited from Wodonga via the Murray Bushrangers, Joel McKay arrived at Kardinia Park with significant expectations as the 15th selection in the 1997 National Draft. A promising midfielder at junior level, his transition to the AFL was severely hampered by persistent back injuries that derailed his development and availability. Despite being on the Cats' list for four seasons, he struggled to gain continuity, managing just two senior appearances in his debut 1998 season and another two in 2000 while spending the bulk of his time in the reserves. Unable to overcome his physical setbacks to hold a spot in the senior side, McKay was eventually delisted at the end of the 2001 season, retiring as a highly rated junior talent whose career was unfortunately cut short by injury.
