Bio
Recruited from local junior side Blenheim, South Melbourne native John 'Son' Allan wasted no time establishing himself at Victoria Park, breaking into the senior lineup as a skillful wingman and forward. His debut season proved to be the pinnacle of his VFL career, as he played 17 games and featured prominently in Collingwood's historic 1902 Premiership side, even kicking a goal in the Grand Final victory against Essendon. Despite securing a premiership medallion in his rookie year, Allan struggled to replicate that form the following season, managing just two appearances in 1903 before departing the league to captain Port Melbourne in the VFA. Although his stint at the top level was brief, his role in delivering the Magpies' first-ever VFL flag guarantees his enduring place in the club's history.
