Bio
Selected by Collingwood with pick 37 in the 2005 National Draft, John Anthony overcame a serious neck injury early in his tenure to establish himself as a productive forward option. An undersized spearhead known for his distinctive set-shot routine and accuracy, Anthony enjoyed a standout 2009 season where he led the Magpies' goalkicking and famously booted the match-winning goal in the dying seconds of the Semi Final against Adelaide. Despite this success, he was squeezed out of the side during Collingwood's 2010 premiership year due to structural changes, eventually requesting a trade to Fremantle to revitalise his career. He failed to secure a regular spot at the Dockers, struggling for form and continuity across two seasons before his AFL career concluded in 2012.
