Bio
Recruited from Northcote Park, John Atkinson was a small forward and rover who made a fleeting appearance for Fitzroy in the middle of the 1968 season. Standing 177cm, he earned his debut against Richmond in Round 10 and held his place in the senior side for three consecutive weeks. He booted his solitary VFL goal during this brief window but struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Lions' rotation, playing his final game against Melbourne at Princes Park where he gathered 11 disposals. Atkinson, who passed away in 2022, remains on the club's historical list as a player who briefly tasted top-level football during a challenging era for the Maroons.
