Bio
Recruited from Reservoir Old Boys, John Benison was part of a unique pipeline of talent from Lakeside High School that also delivered teammates Rod Cobain and Barry Padley to the Lions. Wearing the number 32 guernsey, Benison progressed through the Fitzroy Thirds to make his senior debut in 1966, establishing himself as a reliable defensive unit during a lean era for the club. Standing 183cm, he was a solid contributor in the back half who saw plenty of action in a struggling side, managing 52 games over five seasons. Benison remained a consistent figure in the senior lineup until his VFL career concluded at the end of the 1970 season.
