Bio
Recruited from local feeder club Doutta Stars, John Booth initially showed promise in the Essendon junior ranks, playing in the 1959 Under-19s premiership side and winning the team's Most Determined Player award the following season. However, breaking into a formidable Bombers senior lineup proved difficult; he managed just two appearances as a reserve in 1963 and spent significant time languishing in the seconds while the senior side chased flags. Seeking greater opportunity, Booth crossed to Fitzroy in a mid-season trade during 1965, where he immediately found a home as a sturdy half-back flanker. He became a regular fixture in the Lions' defence over the next three seasons, racking up 46 games for the struggling club before departing to finish his career in the VFA with Port Melbourne and Brunswick.
