Bio
Hailing from the Wimmera town of Stawell, where he had already claimed a club best and fairest, John Brown arrived at Kardinia Park in 1960 ready to test himself at the highest level. Operating primarily as a wingman, he became a reliable contributor for the Cats during the early 1960s, serving as a connecting link between defence and attack under the guidance of coach Bob Davis. While he did not feature heavily on the scoreboard throughout his five-season tenure, Brown secured his place in Geelong folklore as a member of the 1963 premiership side, holding his spot on the wing in the decisive 49-point Grand Final victory over Hawthorn. He remained with the club for one further season following the flag triumph, concluding his VFL career at the end of 1964 as a premiership player.
