Bio
Selected with pick 8 in the 2009 National Draft, John Butcher arrived at Port Adelaide from the Gippsland Power as a highly touted key forward prospect. Possessing strong hands and an ability to crash packs, he teased Power fans with his potential, most notably during a late-season burst in 2011 where he booted six goals against the Western Bulldogs. That performance momentarily earned him the nickname "The Future," yet his career was subsequently hampered by recurring hip and back injuries alongside a notoriously unorthodox and unreliable set-shot technique. Despite developing a cult following for his aerial contests, he struggled to find consistency at the senior level and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
