Bio
A product of the local Eltham pathway, John Caulfield worked his way up through the grades at Tigerland, graduating from the fourths to make his senior debut in Round 9, 1963. Standing at six feet tall—a solid height for a key position player of the era—Caulfield held down a spot as a centre half-back and ruck-rover for the remainder of the season, playing nine games to close out the year. Despite showing promise at VFL level, his greatest impact came after crossing to the VFA, where he became a Port Melbourne legend. He captained the Borough, won a best and fairest in his first season, and played in the 1966 premiership side before later moving north to captain-coach Western Suburbs in Sydney.
