Bio
Recruited from Clarence in Tasmania, John Chivers arrived at Punt Road in 1965 as a promising centreman, joining the club just a season prior to fellow Tasmanian recruit Royce Hart. A mid-sized on-baller standing 177cm, he was tested in the Tigers' engine room to cover injuries to key midfielders like Bill Barrot, eventually making his senior debut in Round 8 against Fitzroy. However, his VFL career was short-lived, comprising just two senior matches and a dozen reserves appearances in that solitary season. Chivers elected to return to his home state to focus on his electrical business rather than pursue a long-term VFL career, subsequently becoming a stalwart at Clarence where he played over 100 games and represented Tasmania in interstate football.
