Bio
Recruited from Kingsville, John Clegg was a diminutive rover who stood just 163cm, making him one of the shortest players to compete in the VFL during the late 1950s. He debuted for Footscray in 1958 and managed 24 senior appearances over three seasons, drifting forward to contribute 14 goals. Unable to cement a long-term spot at the Western Oval, Clegg transferred to Yarraville in the VFA where his career truly flourished. He became a central figure for the Eagles, featuring in their 1961 premiership triumph and later claiming the competition's highest individual honour, the J.J. Liston Trophy, in 1963.
