Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Spotswood Football Club, John Dean was a tall utility who earned a brief opportunity with South Melbourne during the mid-1970s. Standing at 188cm, he possessed the size to fill key position roles and was handed his senior debut against Hawthorn at the Lakeside Oval early in the 1975 season. Dean held his spot for three consecutive weeks against formidable opponents in Richmond and Melbourne but struggled to make a lasting impact in a Swans side that was fighting to move up the ladder. He was recalled for a final appearance against Collingwood later that year, but unable to cement a permanent place in the lineup, his VFL career concluded after just four games without a goal.
