Stats
Bio
Recruited from Oakleigh Districts, John Ferguson was a tall defender who briefly broke into the powerful Richmond lineup during the club's successful 1969 premiership campaign. Handed his debut by coach Tom Hafey in Round 9, Ferguson played seven games as a defensive utility while the Tigers fought to secure a spot in the top four. Although he provided valuable depth during the home-and-away season, he found it difficult to command a permanent position in a team stacked with future Hall of Fame legends like Kevin Sheedy and Francis Bourke. Consequently, he was squeezed out of the side prior to the finals series and did not feature in the club's ultimate flag triumph, with his VFL career concluding after that solitary season at Punt Road.
