Bio
Recruited from Warburton, John Fisher was a speedy wingman who overcame a patient start to his career to become a central figure in Hawthorn’s history. After proving his class by winning the Gardiner Medal as the VFL's best reserves player in 1958, he cemented his spot in the senior lineup as a clever ball-winner who was particularly effective in wet conditions. His career reached its pinnacle during the club's historic 1961 campaign, where he was recognised as the Hawks' best player of the finals series and played a vital role in securing the club's first-ever premiership. Fisher remained a consistent contributor in the number 5 guernsey until his retirement in 1965, forever securing his status as a key member of the Hawks' breakthrough generation.
