Bio
Recruited from North Reservoir in Melbourne's northern suburbs, John Formosa was a tall key position prospect who broke into the Fitzroy senior side as a 17-year-old in 1972. Standing 188cm, he possessed the size to play in the ruck or hold down a key defensive post, showing early promise by managing nine games in his debut season. Despite this encouraging start, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Lions' lineup over the following years, adding just six more senior appearances across three seasons. He remained on the list until the end of 1975, serving as a depth player during a challenging period for the club before departing the VFL scene.
