Bio
Recruited from Hobart, John Forster was a talented Tasmanian wingman who joined Melbourne in 1968 after previously representing the Tasmanian amateur state side. Capable of playing on the wing or in defence, he broke into the senior side for a debut in the opening round of the 1968 season but found it difficult to command a regular position in the starting lineup over his three-year tenure. Although his senior opportunities were limited to nine games without a goal, Forster was a vital contributor to the club's depth during a developmental period, celebrating back-to-back reserves premierships with the Demons in 1969 and 1970. He departed the VFL following the 1970 season to join Oakleigh in the VFA, where he played until 1974 before later serving as a coach and administrator for Prahran.
