Bio
Recruited from local GFL club Grovedale, John Hoiles followed his father—former Footscray centre half-back John E. Hoiles—into the top flight of Victorian football. A mid-sized defensive option standing 183cm, Hoiles earned his senior debut late in the 1985 season under legendary coach Tom Hafey, playing the final two matches of the year. He added five more appearances to his tally in 1986 under new mentor John Devine but faced stiff competition for a permanent role in the Cats' backline. Hoiles ultimately finished his VFL career with seven games and zero goals, serving as a depth player during his brief stint at Kardinia Park.
