Bio
Recruited from The Basin in Melbourne's outer east, John Holt was a capable medium forward who provided a reliable avenue to goal for North Melbourne throughout the 1980s. Standing 183cm, he possessed the size to operate as a marking target on the half-forward flank while retaining the agility to crumb at ground level, a skillset that helped him maintain a career average of better than a goal a game. Despite his scoring efficiency, Holt faced a constant battle to cement a permanent spot in a Kangaroos lineup stacked with attacking talent, often competing for space in a forward line dominated by the Krakouer brothers and dynamic rovers. He served the club primarily as a dangerous depth player who could step into the senior side and immediately impact the scoreboard, most notably during a productive 1982 campaign where he booted 18 goals in just 12 appearances. A loyal servant to the club, he remained at Arden Street for his entire VFL career before departing after the 1988 season.
