Bio
John Laird was a tall utility recruited from the local Geelong area who briefly featured for the Cats during the 1957 VFL season. Standing 188cm, he possessed the size of a key position player or ruckman, attributes that earned him a trial in the senior side as the club sought to bolster its big-man stocks. A member of a well-known Geelong family, Laird broke into the lineup in Round 15 for a home debut against Carlton at Kardinia Park. He managed to hold his spot for three consecutive weeks, playing a supporting role in the key posts, but was ultimately unable to cement a permanent place in the team. His VFL career concluded after those three games, and he returned to local football, remaining a respected figure in the Geelong community until his passing in 2016.
