Bio
Recruited from Parkdale, John Letcher was a solidly built utility who offered the Demons options as both a ruckman and key defender. Standing 189cm, he broke into the senior side as an 18-year-old in Round 1, 1969, and capped off his debut season as a member of the club's Reserves premiership team. His promising career hit a major hurdle the following year when he suffered a severe knee injury against Footscray, requiring surgery that sidelined him for the remainder of 1970 and the entirety of the 1971 season. Although Letcher managed a commendable return to play 12 games in 1972, the toll on his body saw him call time on his VFL career at the premature age of 22.
