Bio
Recruited from the Old Geelong Grammarians in the VAFA, John Manton was an athletic key position prospect who developed into a serviceable utility for Richmond during a challenging era for the club. Utilising his strong marking hands and impressive vertical leap, Manton was capable of playing as a close-checking defender or providing competitive relief in the ruck. His standout campaign came in 1987, where he finished third in the Jack Dyer Medal count, underscoring his consistency even as the Tigers struggled for on-field success. After departing Punt Road following the 1989 season, he returned to the amateur ranks with distinction, eventually captaining the Victorian state representative side and securing a premiership with his original club.
