Bio
Recruited from East Sandringham, John Manzie established himself as a reliable wingman for St Kilda during a sustained period of competitiveness for the club in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although he occasionally found himself on the fringe of selection in a talented squad, Manzie famously fought his way back into the side just in time for the 1971 finals series. His recall proved justified as he played a significant role in the Saints' premiership push, including booting a goal in the heartbreaking Grand Final loss to Hawthorn.
A servant of the club for nearly a decade, Manzie was a consistent contributor who played in nine finals matches throughout his career. While often overshadowed by the high-profile stars of the Moorabbin era, his longevity and ability to perform in September ensured he remained a respected figure at the Saints until his retirement at the end of the 1975 season.
